First Teaching Experience

First Teaching Experience

My first teaching experience was on January 30th, 2018. At that time, Ms. Emmie was absent, she could not handle her classes because she had a test or exam. So I took over her grade 7 classes. It was kind of easy to mingle with the students because Ms. Emmie had introduced me to the students during my observation.

I handled grade 7 Sampaguita and Ilang-ilang. This first teaching experience was carried out at the second week. The number of students of each class is more than 50 students. So it is kind of crowd inside if they have an activity like a discussion.

During my observation, I found out that the majority of the students’ activities are performing in front of the class. For my first teaching experience, I was told to handle the students’ performance. The students were performing their own poem which was written by themselves in a group, and they must read it in front of the class then explain the meaning of their poem. They must interpret their poem starting from the title then the content.

Grade 7 Ilag-ilang is performing their own poem.

Grade 7 Sampaguita is performing their own poem.

These students are really excellent in speaking English. The representatives of some groups could even interpret and explain the poem very well. As their teacher on that day, I add some activities after they performed their poem. I told the rest of the students from the other groups to ask any question about their friends’ presentation and to criticize their friends’ presentation or the poem that was being presented. The following is the lesson plan that I used for the first teaching activity in ISAT U Laboratory School. i only post the lesson plan for Sampaguita, because the lesson plan for both of the classes are the same.
