Curriculum K to 12 in Iloilo Science and Technology University Laboratory School

Talking about curriculum, Philippine uses different curriculum with Indonesia, the country where I live in. In Indonesia, schools are using curriculum 2013. Meanwhile in Philippine, they are using curriculum K to 12.

Based on the information that I got, the curriculum K to 12 covers Kindergarten and 12 years of education system. The 12 years of education system stands for six years of primary education, four years of Junior High School, and two years of Senior High School.

In curriculum K to 12, students of grade 1-10 are taught with subjects:

·         Mother Tongue
·         Filipino
·         English
·         Mathematics
·         Science
·         Araling Panlipunan
·         Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao
·         Music
·         Arts
·         Physical Education
·         Health
·         Edukasyon Pantahanan at Pangkabuhayan
·         Technology and Livelihood Education

Meanwhile grade 11 and 12, students may choose a specialization based on aptitude, interests, and school capacity. Students of grade 11 and 12 can choose among three tracks; Academic; Technical-Vocational-Livelihood; and Sports and Arts. In choosing their specialization, they will have some assessments to determine their strength and interest.

In Iloilo Science and Technology University Laboratory School, they also use curriculum K to 12, but is not following the whole system of curriculum K to 12. ISAT U Laboratory School is a public school, but it is under a university. Hence, this school can change or differentiate its system with curriculum K to 12. The laboratory school can change its own subjects and the other systems, but for grading system, they are still following curriculum K to 12.
This is one example of ISAT U Laboratory School is using curriculum K to 12.

We can see it from the cover of the text book that grade 8 students use for studying English.
